Mission & Ministry

Mission Statement

IHS is a welcoming and inclusive family of faith. We worship, celebrate, and serve to strengthen and restore all people to God and each other in Christ.

We live out our mission statement through practicing ministry. Here are just some of the ongoing ministries at IHS in Drexel Hill:

Adult Bible Study

We gather in the parish hall each Sunday at 8:45am to look more deeply together at how God’s word is speaking to us today.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Each year on Alex’s Lemonade Stand Sunday in June IHS holds an incredibly vibrant, successful fundraiser for childhood cancer. This ministry is organized and run by our Sunday School and families of IHS.

Children’s Ministry

At IHS one of our proudest moments is when our children come up from Sunday School and share what they’ve learned that day. They process up the center aisle and offer whatever they’ve created to place on the altar along with the congregation’s offering and the Eucharist. But Sunday School is just one way in which our children participate in our church. We also have regular events for family and children, and the children are vital in many of our other ministries.

The IHS choir is made up entirely of our members and sings at Sunday Holy Eucharist services (taking a break during the summer months). Practice is at the church before Sunday Service at 9:15 a.m.

Deep Soil

Deep Soil is an intentional community of Christian disciples who live at IHS. Learn more on the Deep Soil page.

Fellowship Gathering

We have a “team concept” for our Sunday Coffee Hour. Each team volunteers to host a few times a year, making coffee, providing snacks, cleaning up afterwards. You can join an existing team or start your own, or if you are not able to join, you may bring in a box of cookies or crackers for the pantry, a gallon of iced tea or lemonade. Fellowship Gathering is a “coming together” time and many hands do make for lighter work!

Partnering in the Community

At IHS we value above all else our community partnerships. We partner with Stonehurst Hills Elementary School and the Upper Darby School District to provide backpacks for in-need and at-risk children, donate to the school store to encourage behavior and attendance, collect for their library, and sponsor other events throughout the year.

We also conduct seasonal mission opportunities like annual collections for merchant marines, food drives at Thanksgiving and Christmas, sponsoring in-need families at Christmas, and more.

Potluck Dinner Thanksgiving Meals

Every month we celebrate the feast of a saint, a sister or brother in Christ who has gone before, and in their legacy and memory we share a common meal and Communion. We announce a different feast day each month.

Property Committee

Our Property Committee and our “Wednesday Wonders” minister by caring for the grounds, building, and property of IHS. The Wonders meet every Wednesday for fellowship and maintenance. We love IHS and the Property Committee expresses that love by caring for its physical plant.

Serving in Worship

We always welcome people to join the Altar Guild or serve as a Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Visitor, or Usher. Training is available for all of those positions

Sewing Group

A group of talented volunteers get together every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at a member’s home to share fellowship and create a great many things, from costumes for the annual Christmas Pageant to blankets for local hospitals.

Saturday Night Strategists

Every Saturday night is game night at IHS! Join us at 7pm for a different gaming opportunity. Click here for a full schedule.
